Code of Conduct
Introduction:
The District School Board of Niagara Believes that students should place a high value on excellence, integrity, self-discipline, tolerance and respect for others. Therefore, the discipline policy at Rose Seaton School is designed to develop self-worth, self-control and self-esteem.
Discipline is learned and it should be taught in the home, the school, and the community. It is a developmental process that ultimately should result in self-discipline and appropriate responses in society.
Behavioural Expectations For Students:
- Attend school punctually and regularly
- Act responsibly and exercise self-discipline
- Pursue all studies with diligence
- Honour the rights of others to study and learn
- Respect School Property
- Be considerate, courteous, and co-operative
Safety Expectations For Students:
- Make sure that a parent or teacher knows where you are at all times
- Walk with someone else to and from school
- Observe the “No Body Contact” rule
- The parking area is out of bounds for students
- Use all playground equipment safely
Consequences When Expectations Are Not Met:
The following range of consequences is intended to protect the safety and rights of all students. In selecting the course of action to be taken, the teacher/principal will consider the age of the child, the nature of the offence, the number of previous infractions, and any extenuating circumstances.
- Discussion with teacher/principal
- Alternate work environment
- Consultation with parents
- Community Service
- Removal of Privileges
- Suspension
Expectations For Teachers:
- Plan and implement an effecttive educational program for all students
- Evaluate and report student progress regularly
- Provide a safe and stimulating learning environment
- Respect the rights and needs of students
- Open lines of communication between home and school
Expectations For Parents
- Support school policies and procedures
- Communicate with teachers/principal
- Encourage children to follow school rules
- Provide tools and home environment necessary for success at school
Expectations For Visitors
- Use the front doors when entering the school
- Sign in at the main office
- Observe all school rules
- Exercise confidentiality
